About the Event

Foundations of Mindfulness Course

Tuesdays 19:00-21:15 CET 1 October - 19 November 2024 (8 sessions)

Location: PEOPLE PLANET PLACE --> Rue Emmanuel Van Driessche 9, 1050 Brussels

Price: 225 EUR

During this eight-week course, we will explore the foundations of mindfulness through meditation and yoga practices, contemplative exercises and group discussions. This is an experiential curriculum designed to increase psychological flexibility and resilience; you can expect thoughtful interaction rather than a lecture and PowerPoint slides.  This course is based on the curriculum of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970’s. A secular, evidence-based program, MBSR is among the most-researched and widely-taught mindfulness programs in the world.

Benefits of the course In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Approach your life with more composure, energy, understanding and enthusiasm
  • Develop the ability to cope more effectively with both short-term and long-term stressful situations, gaining insight into response rather than reaction
  • Enhance your ability to manage and reduce pain levels
  • Improve your focus, resilience, and capacity to recover more quickly from challenging events
  • Learn how to access and cultivate a natural capacity to actively engage in caring for yourself and find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind

Structure of the course Classes meet weekly for 2-1/4 hours. At the end of each class, you will receive a homework assignment consisting primarily of personal practice. It is recommended to set aside 30 minutes per day for personal practice during the course.   On Sunday, 17 November, there is an optional day retreat from 10:00-16:30 (50 EUR supplement).
